Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
(CRPS)/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)

The chronic pain condition complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) was formerly referred to as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD). The pain stems from intense nerve impulses in a particular location. Complex regional pain syndrome is a disorder of the peripheral nervous system, and it most often occurs in patients between the ages of 20 and 35. Women are more prone than men to the condition, and children can also suffer from CRPS. Symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  • Pain described as burning
  • Joint stiffness
  • Inability to fully move the affected body part
  • Hair and nail growth changes
  • Skin temperature changes
